Working On Leaks
27 November 2007
I feel like I made a breakthrough in the foundation of my game. The results have not shown yet but hopefully soon I can get some better results. I have never done well in the past playing twelve tabes, even when I was able to beat 1000nl. I don't feel this is because I can't mulit task well but more so due to some major leaks in my game. When I would six table I think I made up for these leaks but they broke out more when twelve boarding. Basically I'm playing way too many hands oop, especially pocket pairs, to preflop raises. I'm really going to cut back on this, even for a 3x raise, and see how my results fair.
This was a really tough spot for me. I think I would have made this call if I was playing less than twelve boards at the time. It was also after making three consecutive bad decisions so I was a bit weary here. This hand really did not make sense to me. He limped in a later position and then re raised me 4 more preflop. He half pot bet the flop and turn and then pot bet the river. I wasn't really sure what to put him on. Maybe he was playing AA very badly here, or maybe he missed with AK. I ended up pitching it and felt he was weak but couldn't logically peice this one together at the time.
Trouble hand for me. I pick up a heavy draw on the turn but I don't know if it's correct to bet here. I have to think he has a weak hand checking behind me on the flop; however the turn two paired him up so maybe that was just a bad card for me. I like my preflop play here but I think I should have played the turn differently.
Played this rather poorly. This player was wild and we did have a good amount of history going into the hand. My reads were correct on the flop and the turn were correct, and I should have raised one of these streets. I got myself into trouble by calling twice on the river and was faced with a tough decision. I really think he still shoves this river on a blank because he thought he had me beat, and the Jack doesn't improve his hand vs AA anyways (altho I'm not sure he would pick up on that either). Either way I played weakly and got stacked off.
Here I am just getting myself into trouble trying to play pocket pairs oop. He raised the turn so hard that I really felt like his bet was a semi bluff and that he was on a draw. This was what in fact he was doing as I think he thought I possibly had his AJ beat, but he did have the ace as well and I was crushed.
Just another strange hand. I checked behind the turn like I was possibly holding AK, hoping to extract value off of a weaker pair on the river. He lead weak here on the river and I over raised to seem like I was bluffing. To my suprise he came back with a min raise and has to have some kind of boat. Really just a bad spot I found myself in and folded for an extra $25.
Lost a full stack to a pair of 3's.
Dragging Along
25 November 2007
Today seemed to go really slow. I managed to play about 2,000 hands on nine tables, but didn't have anything too exciting. The short stacks definitly got the best of me today and I don't feel I won my fair share of pots vs them. Other than that I played fairly attentive and ended up (I think) for the session.
First hand of the session. I posted my blind here oop, which I usually do from the cut off, and ended up coming in for a raise anyways. The button seemed to be a bit loose and wild and repopped me here. Taking in the situation I gave him a call here. It was interesting to me that he bet out so fast on the flop I really felt his hand was suspect to be weak. I could reraise here, but I feel like calling and seeing the turn play out is a bit safer. I don't necessarily fold to a bet on the turn per say, but as he checked I figured my hand was good. I didn't want to lose to 99 or TT on the end so I put a bet out fairly confident that he didn't have AK or AQ.
This is an interesting situation which occurs from time to time. I was about to just fold without thinking the hand out, but then noticed Jdoyles is a multi tabling regular here and he most definitly messed up his bet size. He wanted to go to $4 here but mistakenly went to $14. I don't think theres anything special with this hand but I probably would have done a similar move with a much weaker holding.
Considering the board, I had a somewhat marginal holding but really extracted great value here. A lot of these players are making their moves so fast it really gives me an impression they are weak on their holdings. His turn bet was real strange and I just put him in here not sure if he had JT, one spade, or something like KQ.
Somewhat similar to the first hand I posted here, and no I don't just bluff every spot possible when I play - these good situations kept seemingly coming up. I raised early here with 45c which I do on occasion, usually more so at higher limits though. I made my standard continuation bet and he gave me a raise. This player comes off as goofy/loose to me so the raise didn't seem right. He insta checked behind me on the turn so I figured he had air and just represented the ace on the river.
The play by these two particular players in this hand had been sporadic leading up to this one. So I didn't credit either of them with a great holding. I'm sure the line I chose for this hand can be debated and picked apart by different styles of players, but I felt that the short stack would call off with any pair here based on previous hands I saw. I also didn't give the other player a ton of credit but who knows exactly what he had. They both checked the turn and the short stacked pushed here on the river. The other thing I felt about this hand was that if he had any pair he would have shoved on the turn so there was a pretty good chance he had air on the river. Also I was getting 4-1 on my call so I only had to be correct a fifth of the time to make this call profitable here.
Sloppy Day
22 November 2007
I really did not play that well today. I had a few good calls here and there but I got stacked off three times which is pathetic. I ended up for the day but I should have been up much more. Once I stop playing stupid I'll actually start making some decent money.
Kind of an interesting hand for me here. An obvious flsuh draw is on board but I really felt he had a weaker ace here. I opted to flat call with intentions of hitting him hard on the river.
Another strange hand but nothing too special. He basically insta raised me on the turn which was strange and I gave him a call to see what would develop on the river. His bet on the end was so small I really didn't give him credit for more than a pair. It was strange to see him holding absolutely nothing in this spot.
Absolutely terrible mistake on my part. I definitely gave him credit for a possible draw on the flop but opted to flat call. This would have been a great spot to push. I was hoping he was weaker like QQ or JJ and I could take him hard on the turn. I really hated his turn bet and figured he probably hit his flush but shoved anyways out of disgust in the way I played the hand out.
Started Playing Poker Again
19 November 2007
I just started getting back into poker again and wanted to keep a weekly blog going tracking my efforts. I'll be making a strong run this time and plan on seeing how high I can go. I created the look of the blog myself and plan on adding more features later on, but for now this is it.
Nothing too amazing here but I thought it was fun. I took a free river card since I didn't think I had much fold equity, turns out I probably did. Either way, with his weak river bet, AK flashed into my head and I made the call.
This was just awful. Why wasn't I playing in the bad beat jackpot I would have made a ton of money. The way the hand was played out, it was mathematically correct to call his shove on the turn. He needed to profit at least 80$ off of his flop call, but thats impossible to obtain factoring in his odds to hit the turn and my odds to hit the river. This is all assuming the fact that he could be also holding something else besides QT here. Any other set or maybe a massive draw is possible.
